Global Media Campaign (GMC) grew out of the anti-FGM campaign housed within the Guardian newspaper between 2013 and 2017. Headed by award-winning journalist Maggie O’Kane, GMC aims to raise awareness about the harmful impact of FGM by ‘opening the airwaves’ in high prevalence countries through the use of targeted media interventions and connecting the media to religious leaders that support an end to FGM. HDF has provided consistent support for GMC’s mixed-media campaigns, media production and media training courses across East and West Africa.
